Coming soon: intro to subscriptions
From the first video you'll begin to learn the building blocks of how to provide unique therapy. We will teach you some basic anatomy (And, I put as much as I can in "layman's language"). Plus, your online learning videos explain how YOU should feel doing therapy for a client and how your client SHOULD FEEL during their "Neuromuscular Therapy".
In 1980, when I realized that I was not going to be able to work in my college field of study, it was a unwelcome revelation. BUT, I also decided to "be good at whatever I was doing". That philosophy helped me rise up in that first career. When I started doing Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) in 1989 I was used to being good at what I did. Helping people through NMT has been my passion since then, and teaching NMT has been a passion since 1995.
I learned so much while working at the World Championships, Goodwill Games and the Olympic Games. That experience multiplied by helping thousands of clients since 1989 taught me a LOT.
I'm ready to share with YOU!
The truth is, our Neuromuscular Therapy techniques are about getting results. I have met some therapists see therapy as a "job" - a way to charge another hour of billable time. I've NEVER done that. For me results come first! I always wanted to get better and better at helping people. So, my therapy practice has always been about solving problems. We are ready to pass that learning on to you.
PS If you are GOOD at what you do, you'll earn a good living. And, if you ENJOY what you do, that's even better!
My favorite mentor, Jim Rohn said that you teach some they learn the information, but YOU learn it again! Every time I train a new therapist for our office, I learn more about "how to teach".
Take a review of Anatomy. Watch the therapy videos. Look at our FAQ. Email your questions. Your course plan is organized so that you can move from one learning module to the next. Plus, we "connect" the learning platforms in a way that you can reference important anatomy information and related videos so you'll be confident that you are doing the right thing.
Your subscription is available 24/7. Learn when and where you choose! We try to give you a broad learning experience. You will get:
Anatomy education,
Video therapy training,
Written explanations, plus
Cross referencing as needed.
And very importantly, we will help you "put it all together" with a verbal and written description of the kinetic feeling both you and your client should feel.
A long, long time ago I decided to be the kind of person who "gives back" to the community. I am bringing that philosophy to this learning platform. Our goal is for you to "feel like you can do it"!
This section includes 80+ training videos and written descriptions. You will also have access to some basic anatomy related to Neuromuscular Therapy. Contraindications are important, so we'll cover why to avoid skin rash, bruising, recent injury, and acute pain.
Note: These techniques are only to be used on a client muscle tightness. The therapy techniques should feel like medium pressure and the client should feel like the Neuromuscular Therapy is helping even while you are working on them. (A frequent comment is: "That pressure aches, but don't stop, don't stop.) If the client has acute discomfort or a recent injury, please see a doctor or health care provider before providing therapy. These techniques are presented with the intention of providing effective muscle relaxation, improved range of motion, and better circulation. They are not intended to diagnosis or treat any illness.
First, you will want to learn some case history so you can create a solution. We will teach our complete client intake methodology in the Secret Sauce page.
Contraindications include skin rash, bruising, recent injury, and acute pain.
A. Anatomy
We will share the related anatomy information (page and section number) from the Muscle Box and Nerve Box pages. This will give you some basic information so you'll have a concept of what area you are trying to help.
B. Equipment you need & client clothing
1) In addition to your massage table, you'll want to have a straight back chair. We have found a regular chair allows us to reach the muscles very effectively. If you have stacking chair, that will work as well.
2) If you plan to do this on a regular basis, you should get a T-Bar. It's a wooden T with a plastic tip that allows you to press in someone's upper back without wearing out your thumbs. We will show one in the T-Bar video.
3) Regarding therapist comfort, the chair should be a size and height that allows you to reach your friends shoulder muscles. You need to feel good after the massage, too!
C. Timing & Physicality for the therapist
In the office we have protocols for every session length - 30, 45, 60, 75, 90, 105 and 120 minutes. We'll teach you some guidelines about how and where to work your clients.
Remember to "pace yourself" in the beginning. Our techniques are very friendly to the therapist's body, but it is a physical endeavor.
D. Tool box training
Our training manual in the office is seventeen pages long. We name the moves so we can remember the move. You'll learn which massage move would work for different problems and areas. If you're working on someone and need to modify, you go into the "Tool Box" and get another tool out.
But, not everyone likes every massage technique. For example, one of our popular moves on the Tool Box list is "Nicole". Most people like that technique, but if someone doesn't, their chart says, NO "Nicole." Simple, right?
